Thursday Lectures are established.

March 4, 1633

The lectures are instituted in Boston churches by the Rev. John Wilson. Residents are called “by ten of the clock in the morning” by the banging of a drum. The practice continues until 1844 when church officials, objecting to the content of some of Rev. Theodore Parker’s lectures, attempt to take control over the content of the lectures, leading to their demise.
